TO BE OR NOT TO BE [501(c)3] THAT IS THE QUESTION.
Under what circumstances should house / simple churches consider becoming legal non-profits, if any? What about para-church ministries run by members of house / simple churches? What is the tradition and future of the simple church movement in regards to this? What is allowed Biblically; any scriptural models?

Well first of all the Bible is silent on this issue. The Bible says render unto Ceasar what is Ceasars and unto God what is God's. If the government gives you a way to keep from paying tax under these circumstances then why not take it?
This is another issue we have struggled with. Healing Communities IS a 501(c)3 as a ministry in the U.S. but we do not encourage individual house churches to be. There is a group people can join and get a group 501(c)3 if they think they need it. It's called American Evangelistic Association
They require a yearly donation for membership, but the minimum donation can be as little as $40.00 a year. That's make much more sense then paying thousands to register as an individual 501(c)3
Members can also get insurance through AEA if the feel they need it for a group meeting in their home. Thats another issue.
