Concerns on starting a house church

Joe’s Thoughts on House Church

1) Are we really letting strangers into our home? How do we know what they really want? Isn’t there the danger of them bringing weapons? You can think I’m being overly cautious. But, if something happens, it’s on me. It’s the man’s responsibility to protect his home, not open it up to threats.

2) Say we’re doing “coffee shop” evangelism, sitting and talking house church stuff. We strike up a conversation and they are interested. We don’t know these people from Ad… Continue

Hey, Joe! I haven't gotten over here enough. Thank you for having my friend and me over in December. And I LOVE the thought that someone might consider us dangerous. I will have something to tell the grandkids...

But seriously, I met a couple from New York once who had me over as part of a church fellowship hospitality thing, and the man of the house told me the same thing about when they start doing that. It's possible -- yes -- but not likely. Most people who are intensely interested in Jesus Christ are not dangerous in the least -- even the ones who used to be.

It's the people who are between loving the world and knowing God that you have to be most cautious with. (and maybe fanatical religious nuts who want to overthrow the government with arms) As you go along, you'll begin to discern some things. You'll run into some flakes, but you'll start to see the patterns after a while.

Faith, Community, Mission

We may live far apart, but we are a community built in, through, and with the indwelling Christ. Our worship is a sacrifice of time, given to know Him intimately. We each serve, minister, and express our Lord Jesus, who is the only Head. Let us be known simply by our love for each other, in anticipation of when every knee will be bent in His Kingdom. And, let us follow the earthly mission Jesus began and passed to His followers to “preach goods news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives, recover sight to the blind, let the oppressed go free, and proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
We are here to support, confront and clarify each other's place as aliens in the world but not of the world. Est: Nov, 2008.
