Christmas Basket Project Ecuador 2008

Being on full-time Missions in the heart of the Ecuadorian Cloud Forest has helped us redefine what is important. This past Christmas, over 30 families received a basket of much needed items. Many here hope the holidays pass quickly because they are reminded of what they don't have. Delivering these baskets and ministering to poor families needs has been a blessing for us. Pray that those who have been touched would continue to seek God in 2009 and that we would have the opportunity to follow up… Continue

The Most Dangerous Sadducee

"I consider the most dangerous champion of the Sadducee school is not the man who tells you openly that he wants you to lay aside any part of the truth, and to become a free-thinker and a skeptic. It is the man who begins with quietly insinuating doubts as to the position that we ought to take up about religion, doubts whether we ought to be so positive in saying "this is truth, and that falsehood," doubts whether we ought to think men wrong who differ from us on religious opinions, since they m… Continue

Bible Arcing

There is a great new web site where anyone could practice exegesis with just a little bit of training. After you visit there, you can share your ARC's with others and dialogue about the propositions and conclusions of any text from scripture. I think its kind of fun.

The link is HERE

Enjoy.

If you choose to sign up for it. Let me Know and perhaps we will start a Bible Arcing Group.

Blessings,

Miguel

Miguel, thank you very much for the post - the explanation of terms and views on postmodernism and the emerging church. I have been unable to follow or to dialog with others on these subjects, because I didn't understand what in the world they were talking about. The sad thing is that I have been an educated believer for 32 years. Maybe we can get isolated in our IC groups for sure, and never hear what half the world is saying. Its clearer now, and I can actually understand what is going on in some of the dialog in our home groups. Not that I really want to classify people into boxes, but it helps to understand how they could have gotten to the view that nothing is certain or believable with any certainty. I understand, and am better equipped to deal with the relationships that have been puzzeling to me now. Thanks much. Carolyn Spence

Yes, you caught it right. No social network. They are a portal with links. I started a thread here "What's with the worldviews?" It excerpts their House Church manual. Also tried to explain my thoughts to Doug in comments on his page.
I'm guessing that they are much in the same direction we are, except they contextualize more in order to be relevant to post-moderns.

Yo Mike- I read through the above on emerging church. You forgot Brian McClaren and Emergent Church. I was just given a reference to check out www.parousia.org and they seem pretty missional, though they use the word emergent to self-describe. I'm beginning to think that the difference between emerging and missional is the ability to hold onto the baby when you throw out the bath water.

It is interesting to me that there are books of the Bible that do not claim to be the "word of God" or are not referred to by other books as Scripture (for example, the book of Jude). However, the Church (or more precisely, the Holy Spirit working through the Church) chose to include these books in the canon. Does Beale address the role of the Holy Spirit working through the Church to create the canon? Or is he building he case solely on Scripture validating Scripture?

Nice, I can see the link much better in orange! Thank you! (Much better on these tired migraine-suffering eyes. That's also why I chose a dark color for the network, less glare!)

You have no idea how good it feels to reconnect in an environ that is void of . . .well, all the stuff. :) I see you are assisting in the decorative yet functional aspects of this little corner of cyberspace. Bravo! I appreciate that!

Faith, Community, Mission

We may live far apart, but we are a community built in, through, and with the indwelling Christ. Our worship is a sacrifice of time, given to know Him intimately. We each serve, minister, and express our Lord Jesus, who is the only Head. Let us be known simply by our love for each other, in anticipation of when every knee will be bent in His Kingdom. And, let us follow the earthly mission Jesus began and passed to His followers to “preach goods news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives, recover sight to the blind, let the oppressed go free, and proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
We are here to support, confront and clarify each other's place as aliens in the world but not of the world. Est: Nov, 2008.
