Nik P.

But I don't have time to prophesy . . .

I just completed writing our 2nd unit evals and now we have a mid-year consultation committee. More writing, more deadlines. In the midst of it, I hear the Lord speaking on various topics. None of His topics have to do with my little career or writing requirements for my job at the moment.

I feel the fire shut up in my bones and I'm going mad without enough time to develop what He has placed on my heart. He is telling me to use the internet to explore local barter-economy options to help His people. It will be set up like a Country Market, but instead of homepages, folks will have booths. They can display their homemade goods and services with posts and pictures. They can even throw in a little garage or attic cleaning as long as it remains free or barter and local. I was chatting with an old high school friend last night, (I had a crush on him and took him to Turnabout) and one of his software engineer buddies is into this kind of stuff. Yes Lord, here I am.

I happened to be on Facebook, with that old friend, because God had brought me there for another topic. Returning marriage to the church. I started a petition. The issues of gay marriage would cease if the government would just get out of the business of marriage. Marriage is sanctified by God in the church. If the government wants to regulate households and the rights of joint ownership and survivorship, that is their right. They can have a system of legal unions at the courthouse. If a couple wants both marriage and legal inheritance rights, they should go to both places and face the proper authorities. Each church can then hash it out internally, rather than every church battling with the government to take sides with them.

Nik, as I understand it, even the church has no "authority" in marriage other than maybe in matters of morality like adultery and things like that. There was marriage before there was a state or even a church. But I signed your petition because I'm all for taking marital authority away from the state.

In Texas, things may be somewhat different than in your home state. You can just file a paper at the courthouse saying you're married. You can also enter into a business contract without worrying about a marriage license and assure the same rights of survivorship and ownership, Divorce is a little tricky though, with or without a license.

Faith, Community, Mission

We may live far apart, but we are a community built in, through, and with the indwelling Christ. Our worship is a sacrifice of time, given to know Him intimately. We each serve, minister, and express our Lord Jesus, who is the only Head. Let us be known simply by our love for each other, in anticipation of when every knee will be bent in His Kingdom. And, let us follow the earthly mission Jesus began and passed to His followers to “preach goods news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives, recover sight to the blind, let the oppressed go free, and proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
We are here to support, confront and clarify each other's place as aliens in the world but not of the world. Est: Nov, 2008.
